Johannesburg - Anglo American chief executive Mark Cutifani will have a routine hip operation toward the end of the month, the London-based mining company said.
Cutifani “will be out of action for a couple of days,” spokesman Pranill Ramchander said in an e-mailed statement today.
The Australian chief executive, 55, isn’t due to speak at the Mining Indaba conference in Cape Town taking place February 3 to February 6.
Anglo American, with mining operations from Australia to Chile, replaced former chief executive Cynthia Carroll with Cutifani in April last year after cost overruns at its $8.8 billion Minas-Rio iron ore project in Brazil.
Carroll had an operation following a hip injury she suffered during a horse riding accident in 2012. - Bloomberg News
