Business Day editor steps down

Peter Bruce has stepped down as editor of Business Day to become publisher of BDFM, the newspaper reported on Monday.

Former deputy editor Pearl Sebolao becomes acting editor of the publication.

“The job is effective immediately. The appointment will be reviewed in six months' time,” he said in a report on the front page.

“If it has not worked out I will come back to Business Day as editor...that's the shareholder's prerogative.”

Bruce, who has been editor since 2001, takes over as head of BDFM Publishers from Mzi Malunga, who resigned in August following a suspension.

Sebolao joined the newspaper in 1996, was previously managing editor, and has been deputy editor since 2007.

“It's a privilege to edit a newspaper such as Business Day with a strong heritage as well as the strongest journalists in the country. We have a good team,” Sebolao said.

As publisher of BDFM Bruce will oversee the operations of Business Day, Financial Mail, and Summit TV.

He will still write his Monday column.

In this week's column he said he was grateful to readers, advertisers and colleagues for their support while he had been editor.

BDFM is a joint venture between media house Avusa, and Pearson in the UK. -Sapa
