THE strike by the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) at DiamondCorp’s Lace diamond mine in the Free State has ended. The issue in dispute was DiamondCorp’s refusal to employ two extra full-time salaried shop stewards. Amcu is the majority union at the Lace mine and has five appointed shop stewards in the workforce. Amcu members voted to resume work at 6am today without the appointment of any extra full-time shop stewards. The company said it would provide an update on the impact of the strike on the Lace mine development and operational schedule going forwards. DiamondCorp shares on the JSE were unchanged at R1.40 on Friday. – Staff Reporter
