Johannesburg - Dunkin' Donuts has opened its first store in Cape Town, with another 249 on the cards, mostly in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

On its new local website, it says “Dunkin’ Donuts has been a global coffee leader for over 60 years and sell approximately 1.9 billion cups globally.”

It says an extensive variety of coffee is available in South Africa, including the smooth Original Blend, Lattes and Cappuccinos as well as a selection of cold beverages.

The US brand owner, Dunkin' Brands earlier this year inked a franchise agreement with Grand Parade Investments to open more than 250 Dunkin' Donuts and more than 70 Baskin-Robbins food shops in South Africa, focusing on Cape Town and Johannesburg.

During the year, GPI bought the master franchise licences for Dunkin Donuts and Baskin-Robbins for a combined cost of R12.3 million.

It said in its results that roll-out of these operations will take place in the last quarter of the year.

“GPI will focus on delivering on its strategy to grow its food business, which includes the continued improvement in the profitability of Burger King, launching Dunkin Donuts and Baskin-Robbins and unlocking synergies between the various food investments,”CEO Alan Keet said last month.
