Edcon appoints new board members

Edcon on Thursday announced the appointment of David Brown‚ Thabo Felix Mosololi and Louis von Zeuner as new independent non-executive board members to the main board as well as the audit and risk committees‚ effective January 1.

Former Impala Platinum CEO Brown holds a Bachelor of Commerce‚ CTA‚ CA (SA). He joined the Implats board in February 1999 as financial director and was appointed to CEO in July 2006.

Prior to this he worked mainly for Exxon Mobil from 1991 to 1995 in Europe. He was appointed as a non-executive director of Vodacom in January 2012 and non-executive chairman of ASX‚ AIM and JSE-listed Coal of Africa in August 2012.

Mosololi holds a Bachelor of Commerce‚ Honours‚ CA (SA) and is currently the operations director of Tsogo Sun Gaming‚ a 100% subsidiary of Tsogo Sun Holdings. He joined Tsogo Sun Gaming in 2002 as finance director.

He was CEO of Gobodo Incorporated Chartered Accountants from 1996 to 2000 and has also served on numerous other boards since. He currently serves on the board of Evraz Highveld Steel and Vanadium.

Von Zeuner holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Stellenbosch. He retired as the deputy group chief executive of the Absa Group on December 31. Over his 31 year career at Absa he has served on several industry boards and subsidiary boards of the group across Africa.

He also completed several international development programmes. He was recently appointed as a non-executive director of Telkom SA.

These appointments will also enable Edcon Holdings and Edcon as issuers of traded debt instruments‚ to align with the recent opinion of the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission in respect of the new Companies Act‚ 2008‚ he added. - I-Net Bridge
