Johannesburg - An interim chief executive will be appointed to Eskom when current chief executive Brian Dames steps down at the end of March, a spokesman said on Monday.

“No, we have not found a replacement yet,” said Andrew Etzinger.

“The process is underway. There will be an interim chief executive appointed (in the meantime) until a new chief executive is found.”

In December, Dames said he was resigning because he needed to rest, according to a report by the Sunday Times.

“I just want to have a rest...(The job) takes a lot out of you. Really it never ends. I normally say to people that I just want a life,” Dames was quoted as saying at the time.

“I want to pay attention to my family. They have sacrificed a lot.”

Dames will step down on March 31, after 26 years at Eskom.
