Grand Parade Investments, through a subsidiary, plans to open South Africa's first Burger King restaurant in the first half of 2013 in Cape Town, the company said on Thursday.

The company's subsidiary, Utish Investments, has entered into a joint venture with units of Burger King Worldwide to form Burger King South Africa.

Grand Parade Investments plans to create 5 000 indirect and direct jobs from its Burger King outlets in SA, Alisha Almeida, Grand Parade Investments chief operating office said.

Almeida was not able to comment on the total capital outlay associated with SA Burger King investment. She also wasn’t able to comment on number of Burger King outlets Grand Parade Investments plans to open in SA.
