Gem Diamonds recovered more carats from its Letšeng diamond mine in Lesotho in the first quarter than a year earlier and sold its rough diamonds at higher prices, it said yesterday. The company, which is developing the Ghaghoo mine in Botswana, recovered 26 055 carats from Letšeng in the first quarter, up 39 percent from a year earlier. The average price per carat from the first three sales of the year jumped 70 percent to $2 723 (about R28 165). – Reuters
