Gold Fields tumbles on mine strike

Shares of Gold Fields fall nearly 6 percent after the South African bullion miner says about 12,000 of its workers have been on a wildcat strike since Wednesday evening.

The strike is the latest labour unrest to hit the mining industry in Africa's top economy. Production at the South African operations of Lonmin Plc has halted for about three weeks due to labour disputes.

Gold Fields shares are down 5.73 percent at 98 rand, their lowest level since July 20. - Reuters
