Cape Town - Workers at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu mine in South Africa, which has been closed since late last year due to labour violence, could start returning to work next week, the company's chief executive said on Monday.

“If there is no agreement reached in Kusasalethu then people will have to be retrenched but that mine deserves to operate and therefore we need to find employees who are prepared to sign up to those terms,” CEO Graham Briggs told Reuters in an interview.

Harmony has said previously that 6,000 jobs could be lost if no agreement was reached. - Reuters
