Johannesburg - A miner at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu mine was found dead on Wednesday, the company said.

“The employee was reported missing at Kusasalethu mine yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon,” chief executive Graham Briggs said in a statement.

After not reporting to his section, a search was initiated which lasted throughout the night, but he was found only on Wednesday.

“Regrettably, rescue teams recovered the body of the employee in a worked out area during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday),” Briggs said.

The cause of death was not yet known and investigations were underway. - Sapa
