Johannesburg - Anglo American on Tuesday announced that Dr Judy Dlamini, a non-executive director, would step down from her position with immediate effect in order to devote more time to her business commitments as chair of Mbekani Group.

Dlamini, an entrepreneur in the healthcare and global pharmaceutical industries, was appointed to the Anglo American board as a non-executive director with effect January 1, 2014.

Chairman of Anglo American, Sir John Parker, said they were disappointed that Dlamini had decided to step down from the Board and that her valued contribution would be missed.

“However, we of course understand the additional efforts she wishes to devote to her business interests,” Parker said.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to wish her all the very best as she continues to build upon the many successes of her business.”

Dlamini is the wife of National Students Financial Aid Scheme chairperson and and former chief executive of FirstRand Limited, Sizwe Nxasana.

Meanwhile, Anglo American also announced that it had completed the sale of its 70 percent interest in the Foxleigh metallurgical coal mine in Queensland, Australia to a consortium led by Taurus Fund Management.

Foxleigh is an open cut coal operation which produces high quality pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal, located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, 12 kilometres southwest of Middlemount.

Anglo American’s attributable share of Foxleigh’s saleable production was 1.86 million tonnes in 2015.

“The terms of the transaction remain confidential,” Anglo American said.
