MTN South Africa has offered its customers uncapped, free streaming of radio jockey Gareth Cliff’s new show on WeChat, a social chat platform. Brian Gouldie, MTN SA’s chief marketing officer, said yesterday that the company was offering its subscribers an opportunity to engage with the platform from mobile devices at no cost for the data consumed. CliffCentral went live on May 1. The partnership between the wireless network operator and Cliff’s entertainment platform is a novel concept for the local telecoms industry. Streaming through CliffCentral’s WeChat official account also provides access to video and voice clips, daily polls, vouchers and chat groups. MTN Group had 24.9 million subscribers in South Africa at the end of March. – Asha Speckman
