Johannesburg - The State Owned Entities Communicators Association (Soeca) on Thursday welcomed the appointment of Tshediso Matona as Eskom's new chief executive.

“We believe he has the experience and managerial capacity to lead the utility,” Soeca president Congress Mahlangu said in a statement.

“Critically, he understands the policy posture of government, something essential for a position of this nature.”

He said it was imperative that those involved in policy formulation be put right in the “centre of the action”.

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown announced Matona's appointment on Wednesday.

Matona is currently director general at the public enterprises department.

Mahlangu said Soeca looked forward to Matona's tenure at Eskom and the association would support him whenever it could. - Sapa
