The National Union of Mineworkers and platinum producer Anglo Platinum are meeting on Thursday to try to agree on wage increases, the union said.

“The parties remain worlds apart with the NUM demanding a 15 percent wage increment and the employer offering seven percent for lower categories and six percent for higher categories,” said NUM spokesman Lesiba Seshoka in a statement.

Talks would continue to Friday in the final round of negotiations between the parties.

“We are hoping that we would find a resolution in these two days,” said Oupa Komane, the NUM's chief negotiator at AngloPlatinum.

“Should we be unable to find a resolution, then we will formally be in dispute.”

The NUM is the largest collective bargaining agent at AngloPlatinum, representing over 30,000 members. - Sapa
