Johannesburg - South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) signed a three-year wage deal on Tuesday with Pan African Resources' Evander Gold Mine for pay hikes of 14 percent for the lowest paid workers, the union said.

The NUM, which represents a majority of workers in the gold sector, said in a statement that workers would receive increases of R700 ($52) a month for three years and R100 increase in housing allowance.

The NUM accepted a pay offer from AngloGold Ashanti and Harmony Gold on October 2.

The chief negotiator for the Chamber of Mines, Elize Strydom, said the wage settlements reached between the companies and unions were “all substantial” but did not give details.
