Logistics and transport group OneLogix has acquired a majority stake in Durban-based handling company Andre Niemand for an undisclosed amount. Ian Lourens, the chief executive of OneLogix, said the acquisition further strengthened its harbour presence and its start-up OneLogix Projex, also based in Durban harbour, by extending its reach and capacity while reducing operating costs. OneLogix Projex provides logistics for the movement of general freight, specialising in abnormal loads, through the port of Durban. Lourens said Andre Niemand’s warehouse in the Durban harbour would offer OneLogix Projex the necessary infrastructure and facilities to expand its product offering, enabling it to increase its customer base in a more cost-effective way. He said the facilities offered by Andre Niemand were outsourced by OneLogix Projex at a significant cost, while Andre Niemand held a long-term lease with Transnet. The lease was for 11 500m2, which included loading facilities and vehicles, onsite overhead gantry cranes and a railway siding. Andre Niemand will be rebranded as OneLogix Projex Cargo Solutions. OneLogix shares rose 0.26 percent to close at R3.89 yesterday. – Roy Cokayne
