Johannesburg - The largest primary producer of platinum, Anglo American Platinum, had signed a memorandum of agreement with the Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL), a state-owned company, to co-fund the Limpopo road programme, it said yesterday.

The agreement was effective from November 2015 and will run until December 2018. The company will collaborate with RAL on the agency’s road construction projects.

The funding will support an upgrade from gravel to tar of 20km of the D4180 road in Limpopo. The company has allocated R46.8 million towards the design and construction of the road and RAL has promised to provide the remaining balance.

Anglo American Platinum chief executive, Chris Griffith, said: “We believe in playing an active role in understanding and supporting the Limpopo government’s development plans, aimed at improving the local economy and livelihoods of community members.”
