Protech Khuthele had been awarded a R65 million contract for the bulk earthworks and construction of a new solid waste disposal facility in Rustenburg, the listed civil engineering group said late on Monday. It involves the excavation and stockpiling of more than 800 000m3 of clay turf material and other unsuitable soils and rock and the construction of various waste cell berms and retaining structures with a volume in excess of 500 000m3. In total, more than 1.3 million cubic metres of material will be moved. Antony Page, Protech’s chief executive, said the contract award flowed from the repositioning of the group last year and demonstrated its ability to deliver more diversified solutions to its customers. Protech shares gained 3.57 percent to 58c on the JSE yesterday. – Roy Cokayne
