Cape Town - Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) - the world's leading coal exporter - is currently working on raising its port capacity to 110 million tons per annum (mtpa)‚ in order to meet the expected rise in demand from Asia‚ Nosipho Siwisa-Damasane‚ CEO of the coal exporting facility‚ said on Thursday.

RBCT currently has a capacity to export 91 million tons per annum.

“What we are seeing is that there's a lot of demand from India over the next five years‚ and the question is do we have adequate capacity to match that demand‚” she told delegates at the annual IHS McCloskey South African Coal Exports Conference in Cape Town.

A detailed report of the findings for phase six of the port is expected to be presented to the board in October this year. - I-Net Bridge
