Johannesburg - A day after Jimi Matthews sudden resignation as the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s CEO, the broadcaster has appointed Ugandan James Aguma as its head.

Aguma, a CA (SA) has been with the broadcaster since March 2013 and completed a BCom and post graduate diploma in accounting at the University of Cape Town, wrapping his last course up in 1998.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he has been the SABC’s CFO since January 2015, a post he assumed after acting in that position from March 2014.

Before that, he was GM of strategic support for just over a year.

Aguma joined the SABC from the auditor-general, where he spent almost 9 years after his stint at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was an accountant after completing his articles.

Ugandandiaspora.com calls him an “Ugandan Diaspora success story” and notes he is an alumnus of Makerere University and of the Universities of Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal.

Aguma also reportedly has a certificate in Rough Diamond Grading and Assessments.

The website notes he has also been a tutor in Accounting at the University of Cape Town, a teacher in Lesotho and a teaching assistant at Makerere University – being the first person, since its inception, to get an upper second degree, in 1991, in Marketing at the Faculty of Commerce.
