Cape Town - Coal remains a paramount fixture for South Africa’s energy mix‚ and it is important that it is classified as a strategic resource to ensure security of supply for SA's energy demands‚ Mineral and Resources Minister Susan Shabangu says.
Speaking at the IHS McCloskey Coal Conference in Cape Town on Wednesday‚ Shabangu added that as part of the process‚ the framework would be incorporated in the amended Mining Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA).
“It is part if the legislative framework. Our intention will be to ensure that there is a balance between maintaining security of supply for local consumption‚ and also ensure there is adequate supply for exports‚” she said. - I-Net Bridge
