Johannesburg - Around 2000 mineworkers from Impala's Platinum Marula mine in Limpopo went on strike on Friday, Eyewitness News reported.

It was believed the workers were unhappy about a wage deal implemented last year.

Impala spokesman Johan Theron told EWN the company was trying to enter into negotiations with the workers.

“The work stoppage is not being supported by any of the unions, so we don't have a formal memorandum or grievances as such,” Theron was quoted as saying.

“We are trying to talk to the workers to find out what their grievances are.”

Theron could not be immediately reached by Sapa for further comment.
