Johannesburg - Telkom on Monday secured an urgent interim court order against the Communication Workers Union (CWU), restraining the labour union from blocking entrance to Telkom premises or interfering with company’s business.

CWU members participating in the strike must do so 50m away from Telkom premises, according to the court order.

Telkom spokeswoman Jacqui O’Sullivan said yesterday that the CWU had turned a protected strike into an illegal blockade at one of Telkom’s offices in Centurion.

She said CWU members had intimidated and threatened Telkom workers with violence.

“They have physically shoved our people and have threatened them with violence. I was personally a recipient of this attempt at intimidation,” she said.

The union had demanded that Telkom implement an 11 percent across-the-board increase, a three-year moratorium on retrenchments and outsourcing, and six months paid maternity leave.
