Tokyo - Toshiba said on Thursday it would cut about 900 jobs in Japan and abroad by March 2015 in a restructuring of its personal computer business.
The number represents more than 20 percent of its PC business headcount, excluding the manufacturing segment, Toshiba said in a statement.
The company said it would cut fixed costs by more than 20 billion yen ($185 million), compared with the previous financial year that ended March.
The Japanese electronics giant said it would accelerate the restructuring of the PC sector to focus on the business-to-business and withdraw from certain consumer markets.
The company's PC business has been affected by the spread of smartphones and tablet computers, it said. - Sapa-dpa
