Vodacom: Egyptian chief added to board

Vodacom has appointed Hatem Dowidar to its board of directors with effect from yesterday, according to the Vodafone-controlled local firm. Dowidar, the chief executive of Vodafone Egypt, has more than 22 years’ experience in multinational companies. He has spent 17 of those years in telecommunications. He held managerial positions in Procter & Gamble and AEG (Daimler Benz Group) in Egypt before joining Vodafone Egypt in 1999. Dowidar has been Vodafone’s global director of consumer voice services and chief executive of Vodafone Malta. It is Vodacom’s second board change this year. Last month Serpil Timuray succeeded Nick Read as a member of the nomination and remuneration committees. Read was recently named chief financial officer designate of the Vodafone Group. – Asha Speckman
