Johannesburg - An AngloGold Ashanti employee was killed in an accident at the Mponeng mine in Carletonville, the company said on Wednesday.

“The deceased, a scraper winch operator, was fatally injured in a fall of ground incident yesterday (Tuesday)”, said spokesman Chris Nthite.

On Wednesday, an in loco inspection was conducted and the department of mineral resources was notified.

The company conveyed their condolences to the employee's family.

“AngloGold Ashanti would like to express its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

“Management is working with the employee's family to assist them through this difficult time,” said Nthite.
