The Wits Business School, formed in 1968, is part of the faculty of commerce, law and management of the University of Witwatersrand. It provides its students with a solid, relevant and globally benchmarked business education. The school is postgraduate in nature, but offers an extensive range of certificates and executive programmes. It also specialises in the design and delivery of in-company programmes, whereby it collaborates with the client organisation to develop management capacity.
This flagship academic programme uses the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score, which is not a psychometric test but one that needs preparation for candidates to be fully aware of the standard types of questions asked and the pressure of the test so that cores are a fair reflection of their potential to succeed in an MBA Programme. GMAT preparation books are available at Exclusive Books countrywide and WBS offer GMAT preparation classes.
Reportedly with the highest number of teachers with a PHD (70% of faculty), academics are drawn from a number of nationalities including Sweden, UK, Germany, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Ireland, US and Madagascar, which gives students international learning exposure. Students also gain international perspective through the student exchange programme
Its informative and relevant business and management research has four chairs, each focusing on a different area of research - marketing, finance, ethics and entrepreneurship, with a Centre of Entrepreneurship, a high level of published research in accredited journals and a Case Centre, producing research relevant to South African and African business.
The school is accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), Council of Higher Education (CHE) and is a member of the Partnership In International Management (PIM) - the only business school to have been admitted to PIM.
It has an MBA Open Day on 26 May 2012.
