Curved televisions made by Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics would get bigger and be four times as sharp as regular high definition (HD) television sets, the South Korean firms said yesterday.

The two largest television makers will show ultra-HD televisions with curved screens measuring 105 inches diagonally in Las Vegas next month. They began selling 55 inch curved television sets earlier this year made with advanced Oled displays.

The upcoming premium television sets will be made of liquid-crystal display panels packing more than 11 million pixels. But not much video content is available for the ultra-HD television sets.

Asian television makers are trying to excite shoppers with new display technology. Television makers hope the launch of the technology will fuel growth of content and broaden their appeal. Japan’s Sony is working on gadgets and movies in ultra-HD, known in the industry as 4K.
