Washington -

US President Barack Obama said on Monday that a deal to avert the fiscal cliff budget crisis due to hit within hours was in sight but was not yet done.

Obama said the fallback deal being negotiated in Congress ahead of a January 1 deadline would start to solve America's budget and deficit problems in several steps rather than in a big, comprehensive deal that he had hoped for. - Sapa-AFP
