Athens - Greece's unemployment rate dropped slightly to 26.5 per cent in February from a downwardly revised 26.6 per cent in the previous month, the Statistical Agency ELSTAT said Thursday.

Despite the drop, the rate was more than twice the eurozone average of 11.8 per cent in February.

In total, 1.3 million people were out of work in Greece, it said.

ELSTAT said unemployment among women and young people was the most severe: 56.9 per cent of people between 15 and 24, 30 per cent of women and 23.8 men were jobless.

Greece has implemented unpopular austerity measures demanded by international creditors in exchange for bailout loans.

It remains in recession for the sixth-straight year. - Sapa-dpa
