Hong Kong stocks close lower

Hong Kong - Hong Kong shares sank 0.67 percent on Thursday, giving up earlier gains, after China released another batch of data that fuelled fears about the world's number two economy.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index fell 145.87 points to 21,756.08 on turnover of HK$69.15 billion (US$8.92 billion).

However, Chinese shares jumped 1.07 percent after Premier Li Keqiang expressed his confidence in the economy.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 21.42 points to 2,019.11 on turnover of 78.0 billion yuan ($12.7 billion).

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, gained 1.46 percent, or 15.56 points, to 1,078.35

on turnover of 93.8 billion yuan. - Sapa-AFP
