Port Louis - The Mauritius trade deficit narrowed 23.2 percent in November to 7.99 billion rupees ($264.13 million) helped by higher exports, official data showed on Monday.

The overall value of exports rose by 13.3 percent to 7.46 billion rupees as revenues from sales of machinery and transport equipment increased to 466 million rupees from 90 million a year earlier, Statistics Mauritius said in a statement.

Imports fell 9 percent to 15.45 billion rupees from 16.98 billion on the back of lower costs of mineral fuels and lubricants.

Britain was the main buyer of goods from Mauritius in November, accounting for 17.7 percent, while India supplied 22.1 percent of the island nation's imports. - Reuters
