Flushing dining etiquette down the drain, a new Californian restaurant invites customers to eat meals while sitting on the toilet.
The Magic Restroom Cafe in Los Angeles has toilet seats in place of dining chairs and serves up Taiwanese fare in toilet and urinal-shaped bowls.
Taking the theme to another level, Eater LA reveals that dishes on the menu include the Golden Poop (brown curry), Constipation (noodles with soya bean paste) and Smells Like Poop (braised pork over rice). For dessert there is a Bloody Number Two (vanilla-strawberry sundae) and Black Poop (chocolate sundae).
Restaurant reviewer Tony Chen notes: “Thankfully, seat covers are employed, and no one’s actually forced to cop a squat while downing dishes.”
According to the LA Times the eatery was opened by YoYo Li from China. She based the concept on the Modern Toilet restaurant chain, which has been operating in Asia since 2004.
Chen Min-kuang, the manager of the venture, says the experience is “supposed to shock and confuse the senses”.
At the Magic Restroom Cafe, which is open daily until 11pm, the lobby is adorned with urinals and toilets. Main dishes start from around $8 (R79).
While most of the reviews give the food poor ratings, the LA Times says that it is the ideal destination for a “fun meal with friends who can take a good joke. Bring a camera.” – Daily Mail
