LG DISPLAY is aiming to almost double its share of the market for screens in vehicles as automotive interiors become more like living rooms. The second-biggest flat panel maker was testing displays using organic light-emitting diode technology for German car makers, James Shin, the head of LG Display’s automotive business, said. The South Korean firm wanted to boost its share of the automotive screen market to 30 percent by 2018 from 16 percent now, Shin said. Electric components, including screens, would account for about half the cost of a car’s parts within two years from 30 percent now, Shin said. LG Display had 500 billion won (R5.1bn) in revenue from car panels last year and aimed to quadruple sales by 2018, Shin said. He declined to say which German vehicle makers it was working with. – Bloomberg
