Madrid - Spain had a budget deficit of less than 7 per cent of gross domestic product in 2012, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said Wednesday, without giving an exact figure.
Spain had been expected to miss the target of 6.3 per cent, which had been agreed with the European Union.
Analysts had estimated the deficit at about 7 per cent.
In 2011, the deficit stood at 8.9 per cent.
Rajoy made the announcement during a parliamentary debate on the state of the nation. - Sapa-dpa
