Tokyo stocks closed 1.19 percent lower on Thursday, hit by profit-taking after the biggest one-day percentage gain this year.

The Nikkei 225 index lost 121.07 points to 10,039.33 after surging 2.39 percent Wednesday to close above 10,000 for the first time in more than eight months.

The Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.09 percent, or 0.73 points, at 838.61. - Sapa-AFP
