London - A car mechanic in the UK is celebrating a £107.9 million (R1.9 billion) EuroMillions jackpot after telling his father: “This time tomorrow, I will be a millionaire.“
Neil Trotter, from Coulsdon in Surrey, was so confident he would win a prize he told his father and staff at his office last Friday that he would be retiring – before he even scooped the prize.
Trotter bought £10 worth of Lucky Dip tickets on Friday after getting a “funny feeling” that he had to play while on the drive to work. Later that evening, he discovered that he had matched five numbers and two lucky stars in the EuroMillions draw.
He and partner of eight years Nicky Ottaway revealed yesterday that they celebrated with two bottles of Budweiser beer on Friday night, before they spent a restless night excitedly contemplating how their lives would change.
He learnt that he was the single ticketholder to scoop the jackpot on Friday evening. He said: “I’ve always thought I’d win big and I’d had a good feeling all week.”
“On Friday evening we were sitting at home when I checked the time and thought the draw must have taken place by now. I took out my ticket to check the winning numbers and amazingly one by one they matched.”
“I told Nicky, my partner, ‘I’ve done it, I’ve won the lottery, I’ve won the lot’. But she told me to shut up and to stop being an idiot.
“I got her to check the numbers with me and she started screaming,” he said. – Daily Mail
