Washington - The House of Representatives approved a new funding measure Monday that would also unravel health care laws, a move that pushes the US government dangerously close to a midnight shutdown.

The Senate, led by President Barack Obama's Democrats, is set to quickly strike down the measure, with no stopgap spending bill in place ahead of a government shutdown that is set to kick-in in barely three hours' time. - Sapa-AFP
