Timeline
1976: Mark Cutifani begins his
career at the Conzinc Riotinto of
Australia (Rio Tinto) processing
and finished product delivery unit.
1988: He joins Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines as general manager.
1994: He is recruited to manage
Australia-listed WMC Resources’
nickel operations, where he leads
its revitalisation strategy and
$1 billion expansion programme.
2000: He serves as the managing director of Sons of Gwalia.
2003: He joins Vale Inco, the
Canadian unit of Brazil’s Vale, as
vice-president of Canadian and UK
operations and serves as its
president of Ontario operations.
2005: He serves as president of Vale Inco’s North America/Europe operations, and general manager of Australia’s largest gold mines.
2007: AngloGold Ashanti appoints
Cutifani as chief executive.
2012: He is elected as president of the Chamber of Mines of SA.
2013: Anglo American names him
