Johannesburg - South African sunflower seed for September delivery fell to the lowest level in almost a year in Johannesburg as soybeans and corn also declined.

The sunflower contract declined 2.1 percent to 4,150 rand a metric ton, the lowest settlement since September 19, 2013, when it first traded, by the midday close on the South African Futures Exchange.

The nation’s Crop Estimates Committee didn’t change its forecast for the oilseed harvest, keeping it at 853,325 tons, in its monthly report on August 27.

Soybeans for delivery in December, the most active by open interest, dropped 1.8 percent to 5,290 rand a ton.

White corn for delivery in December fell 1.6 percent to 1,705 rand a ton and the yellow variety retreated 1.5 percent to 1,753 rand. - Bloomberg News
