Yellow maize rises for first day in five

Johannesburg - South African yellow maize gained for the first time in five days in Johannesburg.

The white variety also advanced.

Yellow maize for delivery in December rose 0.2 percent to 1,794 rand metric ton by the midday close on the South African Futures Exchange.

The white type increased 0.5 percent to 1,698.80 rand, gaining for the first time in four sessions.

In South Africa, the continent’s largest producer of the grain, white maize is a staple food while the yellow type is mainly used to feed animals.

Wheat for delivery in December was unchanged at 3,645 rand a ton. - Bloomberg News
