JSE retail stocks take a knock

Comment on this story

Retail stocks on the JSE took a knock yesterday after Statistics SA released data that showed a slowdown in consumer spending in January.

The Foschini Group fell 5 percent to close at R105.45, Mr Price lost 2.83 percent to R116.80 and Woolworths shed 2.1 percent to close at R69.95.

Other retail stocks that lost ground were Truworths, Pick n Pay and JD Group.

Massmart and Shoprite ended the day marginally lower, but they held up better than most of their peers.
