JSE's Top-40 index scales record high

South Africa's Top-40 index hit an all-time high on Wednesday as a global rally in emerging market assets sparked by hopes of monetary easing in the United States continued.

At 12:12 SA time, the bluechip index was 0.53 percent higher at 31,389.60 after earlier hitting a record of 31,402.35.

The wider all-share index also hit a new life-time high of 35,655.91.

Emerging market assets have been rising since Friday after US jobs data eased concerns about global growth but supported hopes of further policy easing by the Federal Reserve. - Reuters
