Johannesburg - African Bank on Wednesday appointed chartered accountant Sydney Mhlarhi, MTN Zakhele’s trade platform project manager, as a non-executive director of the bank and its holding company, African Bank Holdings Limited.

Mhlarhi is a founding member and director of Tamela Holdings, a black-owned investment holding and advisory company with interests in the manufacturing, mining services and health-care sectors.

Tamela’s recent corporate advisory activities include the Discovery rights offer and the listing of MTN Zakhele on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Mhlarhi’s appointment completes the full board complement for African Bank and African Bank Holdings, consisting of two executives and eight non-executive directors, under the chairmanship of Louis von Zeuner.

African Bank was re-launched in April subsequent to an extensive restructuring exercise.
