The trial of two men accused of defrauding the Compensation Fund was postponed in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday, the labour department said.

Samuel Mfeleng, 33, and Maxwell Ramaphosa, 42, would appear again on February 22 to enter their pleas, said spokesman Page Boikanyo in a statement.

They are accused of defrauding the labour department's Compensation Fund and face 15 counts of fraud and 26 counts of money laundering.

A Rustenburg-based physiotherapist, Jerry Sehunoe, 38, - originally charged with Ramaphosa and Mfeleng - pleaded guilty to fraud of R5 million and would be sentenced in January, Boikanyo said.

Sehunoe “faces a minimum of 15 years in prison (after being) found guilty of 15 counts of fraud and 26 counts of money laundering”.

All three were previously granted bail of R3000 each.

The three men allegedly made payments from the Compensation Fund for work that had not been performed.

The fund, a labour department entity, provides compensation for workers injured or suffering from diseases contracted during their employment.

It also covers people who die from such injuries or diseases. - Sapa
