Johannesburg - Labour federation Cosatu is preparing workers for a nation wide strike in early October.

Cosatu briefed the media on Tuesday on the outcomes of its special executive committee meeting, where it said the federation has been busy with a campaign focusing on vulnerable workers across the country.

President Sdumo Dlamini said the federation is calling on all workers to embark on a nation wide strike on October 7.

"We are calling on all our members, and workers in general, to participate in the mobilisation process that will involve pickets, demonstrations and workplace meetings all around the country."

The federation is calling on workers in all sectors to participate.

Dlamini said, even though attempts to deter the federation from its main role in protecting workers, it will continue to strive to be a social force for transformation.

"The message is clear. They want the federation to remain occupied with broad social and political issues as well as the immediate concerns of its members.

“ We know that our influence at all levels is dependent on our organised power, our cap2to mobilise, our socio-economic programmes and policies and our participation in political and social alliances."
