Ann Crotty, Business Report’s editor at large and its most senior reporter, leaves the paper today. Crotty has worked for Business Report since its inception in 1995, serving under seven editors. With an unequalled list of highly placed business and government contacts, Crotty specialised in breaking stories that took readers inside boardrooms and the highest level of business. Her weekly column Inside Business became a frequently amusing, but always sardonic, must read that provoked business leaders and politicians of every stripe. Crotty lead the field in reporting the new era for South African business that was shaped by the advent of the competition authorities’ work in breaking cartels and price-fixing. In 2006, Crotty was the overall winner of the Sanlam financial journalism awards for her work related to competition issues. She also won a Sanlam award for complex and comprehensive articles exposing excesses in executive pay. Crotty also specialised in reporting on the rapidly changing demands of corporate governance. She hopes to continue working in journalism after returning from a literary festival in China. – Peter DeIonno
