Comment on this story

Accountant Bradley Fried, born and raised in Cape Town, has been appointed chairman of the Bank of England (BOE) audit and risk committee. The bank has assets of £400 billion (R7.3 trillion). His new role follows his appointment by the queen two years ago as a director at BOE, on the advice of Prime Minister David Cameron and Finance Minister George Osborne. Fried’s responsibilities in the Court, as the BOE’s governing board is known, includes determining the bank’s objectives and strategy, and ensuring the effective discharge of its functions and the most efficient use of its resources. Fried is a director of Investec and founder of Grovepoint Capital. Before joining Investec in 1999, Fried was a partner at McKinsey & Company in New York. – Staff Reporter
