The wage talks between Impala Platinum (Implats) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) remained deadlocked after a meeting yesterday, and talks would resume next year, the company said yesterday. Implats spokesman Johan Theron said the company and union had not been “able to finalise and/or agree annual increases [but] agreed to continue with the process in the new year”. Amcu officials were not available to comment. The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration has given Amcu the green light to strike at Implats, Lonmin and Anglo American Platinum, but its members are unlikely to down tools just ahead of the Christmas holidays. – Reuters
